Building a Canary Cage

You can build your canary not perfect but nice cage alone and all what is needed is to be slightly handy,. Even you’re not a carpenter, if you know how to do it your cage will be cheap, large, and easy to be done with these few steps here.
Use these simple directions:
1. Buy a j-tool, door fasteners ,a small wire clipper and some j-clips from a feed store and understand by asking the salesman how to use the tool. Buy some work or gardening gloves just in case the tool is hard on your hands
2. Buy a roll of ¼-inch (0.6 cm) hardware cloth which is your cage wire from the hardware store (or feed store.
3. Take the hardware cloth outside when you are already at home and hose it down thoroughly. The next step is to spray it with white vinegar and after this scrub it with a stiff copper or metal brush. This should be done because most hardware cloth are usually galvanized against rust which so it has a coating of zinc on it which is toxic to birds .
4. The hardware cloth should be left outside for about two weeks in the elements, then repeat the vinegar scrub and hose-down every second day.
5. The shapes easiest are round or oval if you’ve never done it before. The next step is dragging the end of the hardware cloth to a large place in the wire because you are building a big cage. Clip the end of the wire with the j-clips and j-tool to the chosen spot . You a ready with a round wire circle with no bottom or top.
6. Lay a flat piece of wire over the top of your circle which is overlapping the whole thing by about 3 inches (8 cm) and then clip the piece to the top of the circle. You can use a new roll or the rest of the wire.
7. Flip the circle over . Do it again with the other end.
8. You cage is like a circle and you have two square pieces overlapping each end. Now what you have to do is to flip the thing onto one side. Lay a piece of wire the squares and then clip it to them.
9. You should flip four flat pieces of wire onto each side .Now your cage is circular within a square cage. Cut a square hole about 6 x 6 inches (15 x 15 cm) into the center of it .
10. Cut a smaller square out of the circular part of the cage- a door within a door.
11. Then you should cut a few squares, clip the squares onto the left side of the door holes and the door fasteners to the right side of the doors .Be sure that they close flush. Usually two fasteners per door are needed.
12. When your double-wired cage is almost ready and safe from the weather to be kept outside, place it onto a stand or two hobbyhorses beneath a covered area.
13. Add water dishes, perches and food and you are ready now to keep a few canaries!

African Greys Cage

African Greys need to be out of the cage many hours every day and to interact with people and/or other birds . This is very important if you want to have a mentally healthy bird as the quantity of the time spent in the cage has a great effect on its quality of life and behavior..

The African Greys require large cages enough to flap their wings while they are inside. So when you decide what the minimum cage size to buy , the main factor you should consider is the size of your bird’s wingspan; this you should measure from wing-tip to wingtip when they are fully outstretched as when the birds fly. Generally African Greys have a wingspan of approximately 28 in (71cm); but the Timer’s are smaller at about 24 in (61 cm). A cage has three dimensions (height, depth, and width) so you should choose this cage which size allows the bird to flap its wings. It is not very easy to find a cage of these dimensions. Far more important dimensions are the width and depth of the African Greys cage than its height .

African Greys Cage Construction

Most cages are made of mild steel which is coated with different layers of enameled paint so that it cannot be damaged or removed by the bird. Of course, the best and the most expensive are made of stainless steel. Choose a cage whose bars are sufficiently thick and strong and your bird cannot bend
or damage them. African Greys like climbing so the cage should have horizontal and vertical bars with space between the bars no more than 1 in (25mm)so that bird can not poke their heads out between the bars . You may choose a African Greys cage with the food bowls hanged on swing–feeders and this way the food can be changed from outside .It is better the sliding tray in the base to be metal rather than plastic.

HQ Bird Cages

One of the highest industrialized manufacturing centers situated in the southern provinces of China, is the main supplier of bird cages for the markets all over the world. In 1993 HQ Bird Cages has built one of the most exhaustive product lines as the engineer's efforts have directed to manufacturing technology and quality improvement in order to meet the first line supplier demands. All cages are subject to one rule that is the main aim in the production process namely to design such a cage environment which shall be the closest one to the natural environment of the bird as well as the permanent improvement of the safe bird's resident. On the other hand, there are four main factors in the bird cage designing: durability, functionality, modern style and effective service. Not on the last place, HQ Bird Cages work for the enhancement your comfort and bringing the beauty of the nature to your home, providing you high quality products. One of the basic features of every cage is the finish which has to be wisely considered during the production process. A powder-coat paint system at 450 degrees temperature is used by the HQ Bird Cages for the cage finishing. The HQ Bird Cages paint system avoid every unparalleled adherence of the finish as eliminate the common stripes during the paint process. The paint that is used by HQ Bird Cages contains only ultra-safe levels of toxic elements. It's well known that the white color paint contain heavy metals, for instance zinc. The white color paint which HQ Bird Cages work with has been tested at Louisiana Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory. The results after the testing showed a level of zinc content 80 ppm, which is more than safe level. The maximum safe content of zinc is considered to be 270 ppm. The nonporous finishes are very practical and useful for the daily cleaning of the cage' surfaces and removing of droppings and food from it.HQ Bird Cages are packaged and shipped disassembled for ease and efficiency of transport. Many engineered features make assembly of HQ Bird Cages both rapid and simple. For example, nuts are captive in the channels so that the assembler need only thread in the bolts, which are always supplied in more than ample quantity. Food dishes are provided in ample quantity and are stainless steel. Seed guards, or "skirts" are also provided and attach with a simple corner-clip method allowing for easy removal and replacement when cleaning.

The Aviary For Canaries

Canaries are also ideal for aviary housing and live in a colony of birds if the aviary is big enough not to provoke territorial squabbles. The numbers of the males are also very important- better have one male with a few females or the other option is more than three males with several females as then there is peace . Their best cage mates are cockatiels, budgies, and some varieties of no aggressive finches .Of course you should keep an eye on the hook bills not to terrorize other birds’ roosting or nesting areas. Never keep canaries with lovebirds.

In the aviary there should be an excess to the high roosting areas and to the feeding stations .All birds have to be able to drink, eat, and find a comfortable and safe place to sleep. There should be also a shelter area for protection from inclement weather and a place for nighttime roosting.
If you keep your canaries outside all year , you will notice they have become acclimated to the cold and winter weather if , the only problem is the wind. You can equip your aviaries with heated areas to be sure that the birds are comfortable. If the weather gets really cold and fierce, have warm blankets and thick plastic sheets to cover the aviary walls . Also, it is very important that the birds’ water doesn’t freeze. On the other hand if you live in a very warm climate, keep your aviary shaded all day, your birds should have plenty of fresh water.
Plant your aviary with safe plants and trees and create water fountains if there is suitable inclination. Birds interact with these natural elements and they make them comfortable and offer them shelter. And it will be funny for you to watch them . Grow plants in large clay post with untreated, natural soil and keep other plants outside.
Elevate the floor of the aviary so the waste and excess food fall through. A concrete slab can be used for easy cleaning. Even if you prefer natural sand, soil, or a gravel substrate floor, have in mind that the aviary must have adequate drainage.
The aviary should the double-wired outdoor with screening in between the wires which prevents predators from reaching into the aviary . They even may pull your birds through the wires . The double wiring avoids contact with wild birds which can feed inside your aviary and pass diseases to your birds. The screening keeps mosquitoes and other pests out and they can not from enter your aviary and infect your birds with illnesses.

doesn’t freeze. If you live in a very warm climate, make sure that part of your aviary is shaded all day, and offer your birds plenty of fresh water.
If yon have the time and inclination, plant your aviary with safe trees and plants, and create water features like fountains.
It’s fun to watch the birds interact with these natural elements, and they make them comfortable and offer them shelter. You can grow plants in large clay post with natural, untreated soil and keep other plants outside to rotate in and out of the aviary when the plants inside become worn.

The floor of the aviary can be elevated so that the waste and excess food fall through, or you can use a concrete slab for easy cleaning. Some people prefer natural soil, sand, or a gravel substrate floor, which the birds do enjoy, but the aviary must have adequate drainage.
For safety, the outdoor aviary should be double-wired with screening in between the wires. The space between the wires prevents predators from reaching into the aviary and pulling your birds through the wires- yes, it can happen! The double wiring also prevents contact with wild birds that will want to feed inside your aviary, possibly passing disease to your birds. In addition, the screening prevents mosquitoes and other pests from entering your aviary and infecting your birds with illnesses.
